Lars Eighner " On Dumpster Diving”


In Lars Eighner's short essay " About Dumpster Diving”, he describes his experience of being desolate and the artwork of dumpster driving. Eighner prefers getting referred to as a scavenger rather than dumpster driver. Eighner stated " I love the frankness of the phrase scavenging. I live via refuse more. I are a scavenger. ” (383) He identifies scavenging as a full time job, that will need a lot of effort. He believes that if a single follows certain guidelines and rules, with doing so this might possibly support one to become efficient. A single rule can be knowing good place and time to look for meals and other items, that could be beneficial. Another rule is understanding how to eat securely from a dumpster. Eighner said " Eating safely from dumpsters involves 3 principles; using the senses as well as the common detects to evaluate the conditions of the located materials, knowing the dumpsters of a given location and checking them frequently. Seeking usually to answer the question ‘why was this removed? ”' (384).

Responding to dumpster diving:

The things i get from Eighner's pierce is that even though he is living a lifetime of poverty for the streets, he seemed to possess a good attitude about the circumstances in which this individual lives in.
